Brotte Saint Joseph Marandy 2023

Brotte's Marandy is 100% Syrah from Saint-Joseph in the Northern Rhône, named for the historic lieu-dit behind Maison Brotte's original Saint-Joseph cuvée — a wine prized here since the 16th century, back when the appellation was called "vin de Mauves." The vines climb Saint-Joseph's steep right-bank slopes on light schist and gneiss over granite, with de-stemmed fruit given a short cold soak and cool fermentation in concrete or steel to hold onto its fruit. The result is classic Northern Rhône Syrah: deep garnet, with ripe blackberry, dark cherry, and plum lifted by black pepper, licorice, and violet, full-bodied but framed by fine, elegant tannins.
