Saint Cosme Saint-Joseph 2023

Sérine is an ancient, low-yielding heirloom Syrah strain that most growers have replaced with modern clones. Louis Barruol champions it, sourcing it from cold granite slopes in Malleval, northern Saint-Joseph. These dry-farmed vines, unirrigated under French AOC rules, root deeply into granite. The wine, 30% whole-cluster and wild-fermented, ages 12 months in barrel, unfiltered. It shows wild blackberry, peony, violet, pepper, and woodsmoke — aromatic, structured, granite-cool. A near-lost strain, made traditionally and dry-farmed.
