Les Cardinaux is a small Côte de Brouilly project from a few old friends farming 2.4 hectares of Gamay on the steep, north-facing slopes of Mont Brouilly — the site named for its famous blue volcanic stone, hard schist and diorite that give the cru its signature saline mineral cut. Hand-harvested from the Les Berthaudières lieu-dit, sorted twice, and gravity-fed into concrete with about a third aging in old oak. Elegant and medium-bodied, it layers crunchy red fruit over black pepper, smoke, and stony salinity.
