About the Wine: A deep, dark red wine, it is the most refined of Gulfi's single-vineyard bottlings. Aromas of ripe blackberry and dark plum with violets, licorice, and a stony, mineral edge. On the palate, it is full-bodied but poised, with ripe tannins, bright tartness, and a long finish. A serious, age-worthy red that drinks well now with a simple decant.
About the Producer: Gulfi, founded by Vito Catania in 1996, is Sicily's pioneer of single-vineyard Nero d'Avola, the first winery on the island to bottle the grape by individual site. Its certified-organic vineyards sit in Pachino, in the southeast, where Nero d'Avola originated. NeroSanlore comes from the San Lorenzo cru: old alberello (bush-trained) vines on red sand near the sea.
